Whether looking for a gift for overseas visitors or a reminder of home for an ex-pat Australian, this photographic book series is the ideal gift choice.

The Australian landscape varies from white snowfields to the red sands of the desert, lush tropical rainforests, break taking coastal regions, farming land and mountain ranges. The wildlife is also unique with a fascinating array of mammals, birds and other wildlife.

Photographers Andrew Teakle, Debra Doenges and Michael Snedic have created to gift books of beautiful images that capture the diversity of this amazing continent.

Australian Journey

A collection of 126 photographs, Australian Journey (New Holland, takes readers on a visual journey around the Australian coastline and through central Australia. Beginning with images of Sydney’s iconic Harbour Bridge and Opera House, the book follows a path to the south through Canberra and the Southern Alps towards Melbourne.

The journey continues across Bass Strait to Tasmania, then returns to the mainland to follow the southern coastline around to Western Australia. After continuing north to Cape Range National Park, the path heads inland to the Bungle Bungles and Kimberley region. Northern Territory images include Uluru and Darwin.

There are no images of outback Queensland, with the journey resuming on the Queensland coast and following the east coast of Australian to finish in the Hunter Valley near Newcastle.

Images are primarily of natural environments such as coastal shots, rivers, lakes, deserts. Major cities are included, generally with skyline shots or images of well-known landmarks, such as those in Sydney. Rural and outback photographs are primarily of landscapes, although there are several arresting photographs of wildflowers and other flora.

Australian Journey - Wildlife

Australian Journey – Wildlife (New Holland, is an interesting photographic collection of easily recognised and less well known Australian birds, mammals, reptiles and insects. Images include photos of an echidna, dingo, kookaburra and emu. Colourful birds such as the rainbow lorikeet and king parrot also feature.

Pictures range from cute and cuddly (sugar glider and quoll) to majestic (black swan), from maternal (kangaroo with joey) to menacing (saltwater crocodile and eastern Taipan). Photographs generally feature only a single animal with occasional shots of pairs and very occasional group photos.

Unlike Australian Journey, which features a small outline map on each page showing where each location is on the map, Australian Journey – Wildlife offers no additional information about each photograph other than the name of the animal.
